Some 145 000 lei have been raised at the 12th Winter Charity Bazaar organized by the IWCM which took place on December 6, 2008.
This is an unprecedented sum total collected in a single event in the entire history of the IWCM (52% over last year's Winter Bazaar).
"We organize this event to raise money for different charitable organizations but for visitors and participants this event is also a walk around the world not leaving Moldova. This year we had more Embassies participating than ever before." Marcie Grafin Lambsdorff, IWCM president
This year's Winter Bazaar proceeds go to three organizations benefitting children of Moldova which were selected by the IWCM grants committee. The grantees are: Speranta Day Center (Chisinau), Renastere Center for handicapped children (Chisinau), and the Lunga village kindergarten, Floresti region.
The grants committee received nearly 35 applications from organizations throughout Moldova, but in making decision its members tried to select projects that serve a diverse group of beneficiaries, while focusing on the most economically and socially vulnerable citizens.
Grantees represent local organizations that are addressing some of the most pressing problems facing Moldovan society health and primary education.
The festive program of the Winter Bazaar was very interesting - with songs, dances, raffle and much more. Different groups of children, clown show and a choir performed on the stage.
IWCM was created in 1997, initially to provide expatriates with opportunities for charitable work and insight into the life and culture of Moldova. The Club is now open both to Moldovan and foreign nationals and has 100 members. Some 120 000 USD have been raised in the 11 years of the Club charity activities.
