For this year’s International Women’s Day, the United Nations has chosen the theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.” This theme aims to address the lack of economic autonomy. The most common reason preventing women who are victims of domestic violence from stopping this unfortunate practice is economic dependence on the abuser. It is absolutely important to be aware of this fact and to lend a helping hand to our friends.
I commend the activity of the Women’s Law Center, which provides support to women suffering from domestic violence and encourages them by providing the necessary legal and psychological assistance to break this vicious cycle. A few years ago, WLC was the beneficiary of the grant program offered by the International Women’s Club of Moldova through a project aimed at the economic empowerment of domestic violence victims.
Recently, through a partnership with Moldindconbank, four more women, in their effort to stop violence against them, will be supported in achieving financial autonomy.
The issue of domestic violence must always be brought to public attention, as it is a complex problem widespread across all social categories. Our women and children have the right to live in peace and safety! Domestic violence is an undeclared war, generating millions of victims worldwide. It is a crime against humanity, the least punished and a great threat that endangers the lives of thousands of women and children daily.
Therefore, I wholeheartedly thank everyone who has made a financial contribution or any other kind of contribution to make this project a reality.
Historically, women have had to fight for their rights to be equal and free… I wish for us to be strong and never stop realizing our rights and freedoms…
